David Hernandez: In memory of Trisha Brown
Seeing Trisha Brown’s work for the first time as a teenager on Miami Beach broke open and expanded my world – if I had never seen it, I am not sure I would have spent the greater part of my life as a dance artist. Working with Trisha Brown and her company later in New York for the short time I did, marked me and taught me and opened my body and mind to things I am sure I would have never experienced otherwise.
Having Trisha Brown and her work in the world changed the face of dance forever in the most wonderful of ways and exposed us all to possibilities and experiences that hadn’t previously existed. What magic it takes to dream something into existence that had never been conceived of before, but had always been there under our noses and making it seen changed things forever. ‚No way back‘, that is the gift she gave…
