An enthusiastic stump was vibrating the space. A white tulle with a skull, decaying minds, a 10-year-old black kid murdered by a white police officer – calculated violence, a piercing scream blended with a speech. The ‘entertainer’ was singing: “The past is not the past.” Meanwhile, a poem was channeling the souls of Audre Lorde and James Baldwin. We were nailed on our seats, watching this time-drag of a performance lecture, wondering what happened to the “negro” if ze have allowed to exist.
